Let the landscape frame the show, not replace it

A great location can make the audience experience even stronger, but the drone show still needs its own story.

The mountains, coastline or open sky can become the backdrop while the animation does something completely new above it. The imagery might be connected to the event, a brand, a person or a public story. It does not need to become a checklist of Icelandic scenery.

We storyboard the sequence first, then develop the animation, lighting and soundtrack as one continuous performance.

An image can emerge gradually, change colour, break apart and become something else. A final word or logo can arrive only after the whole show has built towards it.

That is the difference between displaying drone pictures and creating a piece of live entertainment.

A huge finale for public events, or something completely personal

Drone shows scale beautifully between very different types of event.

For a public audience, the sky becomes one enormous shared focal point. A show can follow a countdown, stage cue or live programme and give thousands of people the same final moment.

For a private celebration, the content can become much more intimate. Our 300-drone SM60 production in Mallorca told one person’s story through family, travel, interests and shared memories. For a very different public example, our Guernsey Liberation Day production used the sky to tell a shared story of remembrance, identity and celebration.

The same technology can therefore create a large public spectacle or something that only needs to mean something to the guests standing there that night.

The date matters because darkness matters

Iceland’s daylight changes enormously through the year, which simply means the best show time changes with it.

Winter gives us long dark evenings, while summer shows can be planned later in the programme to get the contrast the lights need. Give us the date and location and we will advise on the best show window from the first consultation.

Weather capability for exposed locations

FlightShows deliberately chose outdoor aircraft capable of operating in challenging weather.

Our outdoor drones can fly in winds of up to 45 km/h and in the rain.

That gives us a wide operating window for exposed Icelandic locations. The flight team still assesses visibility, gusts, temperature and ground conditions on the day, but a less-than-perfect forecast can still leave us with perfectly flyable conditions.

You do not need to know whether either is suitable before speaking to us. Send us the proposed site and we will assess the airspace, access and event layout during the initial consultation. If something needs adjusting, we can work with you on the options from the start.

Iceland operates within the European UAS framework, with the Icelandic Transport Authority responsible for the national requirements and location-specific restrictions forming part of the assessment.
