Sustainable drone light shows, delivered responsibly

A spectacular show should leave people with lasting memories, not an avoidable environmental impact.

FlightShows is an independently certified Carbon Neutral Business specialising in drone light shows. We measure the environmental impact of our business, take practical steps to reduce it and offset the emissions that we cannot currently avoid.

We do not pretend that producing events has no impact. Drone shows require equipment, batteries, vehicles, people and travel. Our approach is to be honest about that impact, reduce it wherever practical and take responsibility for what remains.

For organisations seeking a sustainable drone show supplier in the UK or Europe, FlightShows offers a clear and credible approach: independently measured emissions, practical reductions and certified carbon offsetting.

Carbon Neutral Certification - FlightShows Ltd

Our sustainability commitments

  • Independently certified as a Carbon Neutral Business
  • Organisational emissions measured across Scope 1, Scope 2 and relevant Scope 3 activities
  • Annual measurement and review of our carbon footprint
  • Paperless office and digital production processes
  • Video calls used instead of unnecessary travel
  • Solar-generated electricity used for battery charging where practical
  • Careful planning to reduce avoidable journeys, accommodation and transport
  • Certified carbon offsetting for the emissions we cannot currently eliminate

Reduce first. Offset what remains.

Carbon neutral does not mean that we produce no emissions.

It means that we measure the emissions created by our operations, work to reduce them and compensate for the remaining impact through independently certified carbon-offsetting projects.

Reduction always comes first. Offsetting is not used as an excuse to ignore emissions or continue inefficient practices. It is the final part of a wider process:

Measure. Understand. Reduce. Offset. Repeat.

This approach helps us make better decisions today while continuing to improve how our shows are delivered in the future.

Independently measured and certified

FlightShows’ organisational carbon footprint is independently assessed by Carbon Neutral Britain.

The assessment considers direct emissions, energy-related emissions and relevant indirect emissions from activities such as business travel, vehicles, home working, accommodation, waste and event operations. The methodology follows the principles of ISO 14064-1:2018 and the Greenhouse Gas Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard.

Our latest assessment identified travel as the most significant area of environmental impact within the business. That gives us a clear focus for future reductions rather than relying on vague environmental promises.

Practical changes throughout the business

Sustainability is not treated as a badge added at the end of a project. It influences the everyday decisions we make.

A paperless operation

Our proposals, production documents, flight plans, risk assessments, contracts and show materials are managed digitally wherever possible.

This reduces unnecessary printing while also making information easier to update, distribute and manage securely.

Video calls before unnecessary journeys

Many site discussions, creative meetings and project updates can be completed remotely.

We use video calls as the default for early planning and routine meetings, travelling when being physically present will genuinely improve the project or is required for safe delivery.

Solar-powered charging where possible

Our drone shows rely on rechargeable battery systems.

Where practical, we use electricity generated through solar power to support our office operations and charge equipment. Solar generation cannot cover every charging requirement, particularly during busy production periods, but using renewable power whenever it is available helps reduce our dependence on grid electricity.

Smarter travel and logistics

Transport is one of the most difficult parts of our environmental impact to eliminate.

Where practical, we share vehicles, choose efficient routes and avoid sending more vans than the show genuinely requires. This occasionally gives the crew the opportunity to enjoy some very close team bonding in the company van on the way to a gig. They are usually still on speaking terms by the time they arrive.

Efficient planning

Good planning is good for the environment.

Confirming requirements early allows us to coordinate people, equipment and transport more efficiently. Remote planning helps us limit site visits to those genuinely needed for safety, aviation planning and production, while reducing last-minute deliveries, duplicated journeys and avoidable changes.

The honest reality of producing a drone show

Drone shows are physical productions.

Drones, batteries, control equipment, safety equipment and crew all need to reach the show site. For international productions, that can involve transporting a significant amount of specialist equipment across long distances.

We cannot credibly claim that this has no environmental impact.

Some journeys cannot currently be replaced by a video call. Some equipment cannot be transported by public transport. A safe and reliable show requires trained people and the correct equipment to be present on site.

Our responsibility is to avoid the journeys we do not need, make necessary travel as efficient as possible and account for the impact that remains.

We would rather be open about that challenge than make sustainability claims that ignore the realities of live event production.

Certified carbon offsetting

After taking steps to reduce avoidable emissions, FlightShows offsets its remaining organisational carbon footprint through the Carbon Neutral Britain Climate Fund.

The supported projects are certified through recognised international standards, including the Verified Carbon Standard, Gold Standard and United Nations Certified Emission Reductions programmes.

Projects are selected not only for their verified carbon impact, but also for wider benefits such as renewable energy, cleaner household lighting, employment, education, community development and protection of the local environment.

Offsetting does not remove the need to reduce our own impact. It allows us to take responsibility for emissions that cannot yet be eliminated while technology, infrastructure and our own operations continue to improve.

A more responsible choice for your event

No large-scale event is completely impact-free. However, the supplier you choose can make a meaningful difference.

Choosing FlightShows means working with a drone show company that:

  • Measures its organisational greenhouse gas emissions
  • Uses recognised reporting methodologies
  • Has its carbon-neutral status independently certified
  • Actively works to reduce travel and operational emissions
  • Uses renewable electricity where practical
  • Offsets its remaining organisational footprint through certified projects
  • Is prepared to discuss its environmental impact honestly

For event organisers, agencies, venues and brands with sustainability commitments, this provides a stronger and more accountable option than choosing a supplier that does not measure or address its impact.

Sustainability information for tenders and procurement

We understand that environmental information is increasingly important for:

  • Public-sector procurement
  • Corporate ESG reporting
  • Event sustainability plans
  • Venue approval processes
  • Supplier assessments
  • Brand and sponsorship requirements

FlightShows can provide supporting information about our carbon-neutral certification, emissions-assessment process and sustainability policies for inclusion within procurement documents, event plans and client reports.

Please speak to our team about the information required for your project.

Our continuing commitment

Carbon neutrality is not the end of the process.

We will continue to measure our emissions, identify the areas with the greatest impact and look for realistic ways to reduce them.

As cleaner vehicles, improved battery technology, renewable charging infrastructure and lower-impact transport options become more widely available, we intend to incorporate them into our operations wherever they can be used safely and effectively.

Our aim is straightforward: produce extraordinary shows while continually reducing the environmental cost of delivering them.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes. FlightShows is independently certified as a Carbon Neutral Business by Carbon Neutral Britain. Our organisational greenhouse gas emissions are measured using recognised reporting principles. We reduce avoidable emissions wherever practical and offset the remaining footprint through certified carbon projects.
  • No. Drone shows are physical productions. Drones, batteries, control systems, safety equipment and crew all need to reach the show site, and that inevitably creates emissions. International productions can involve transporting a significant amount of specialist equipment over long distances. Carbon-neutral status does not mean pretending those emissions do not exist. It means measuring our organisational footprint, reducing avoidable emissions wherever practical and offsetting what we cannot yet eliminate through independently certified carbon projects. We use remote planning to reduce unnecessary journeys, combine travel where possible, share transport, use renewable electricity for charging where practical and review our operations to identify further reductions. Some emissions remain unavoidable with current technology and the realities of live event production. We believe the responsible approach is to acknowledge that openly, keep working to reduce our impact and take responsibility for the remainder.
  • Our measures include operating a paperless office, using video calls instead of unnecessary travel, using solar-generated electricity for battery charging where practical and planning transport carefully to avoid duplicated journeys. We also review our organisational emissions to identify where future reductions can have the greatest effect.
  • Every live event has an environmental impact, including a drone light show. The impact depends on factors such as travel distance, equipment transport, electricity use, accommodation and the way the production is managed. FlightShows takes responsibility for its organisational impact by measuring emissions, reducing avoidable activity and offsetting what cannot currently be eliminated.
  • Yes. We use solar-generated electricity to support our operations and charge our drone batteries whenever conditions allow. Our solar system makes a genuine contribution to the day-to-day preparation of our shows. Naturally, the amount of energy available depends on the weather, daylight and how much equipment we are preparing at the time, particularly during busy production periods. We cannot power every part of every show entirely from solar energy, but we make the most of the renewable electricity available to us and continue looking for practical ways to increase its role in our operations.
  • Yes. We can provide supporting information for procurement, sustainability reporting, tender submissions and internal ESG requirements. Please let us know what documentation your organisation requires when discussing your show.
