A show, not a catalogue of shapes

A great drone show is not a collection of logos and pictures appearing one after another. It is a piece of live entertainment, and that means the story, soundtrack, movement, transitions, timing and final reveal all need to work together.

That approach comes naturally to us. FlightShows was built around experience in theatre, international touring and large-scale live production, where what happens between the big moments matters just as much as the moments themselves. We think about how the audience is introduced to the show, what keeps their attention, how one scene becomes the next and what they should be left looking at when the final drones disappear.

For a brand, that might mean building an entire production towards one reveal rather than putting a logo in the sky in the opening minute. A festival or public event might use music and animation to tell a story to thousands of people at once. A private show can turn memories, places and people into something the guests recognise as the story unfolds.

Built around the event

There is no single European drone show that works for every audience, venue or occasion.

A stadium finale needs to behave differently from a show above a destination venue. A city celebration may need to communicate to a very large audience across a wide viewing area, while a private event can be much more personal. A product launch may revolve around a single reveal, while a festival show can become another act within the wider programme.

We start by understanding what the event needs the drone show to achieve. From there we can develop the creative, recommend the right scale, work out how the show fits into the running order and assess the proposed location.

The result should feel as though the drone show belongs to that particular event, rather than something that could simply have been dropped into any evening in any country.

One team from the first idea to show night

International drone shows involve several disciplines at once, but you should not have to assemble a different company for each of them.

FlightShows brings the creative production, animation, soundtrack development, show control, aircraft, operational planning and live delivery together as one project. We also handle the aviation side, starting with the site and surrounding airspace during the initial consultation.

Each European country has its own aviation framework and each proposed location has its own airspace, venue and event considerations. We prepare the operational documentation and manage the permissions, notifications and relevant coordination required for the proposed operation, including liaison with affected aviation or airport stakeholders where the location requires it.

From a few hundred drones to productions using thousands

The fleet should follow the creative idea, not the other way around.

A few hundred drones can already produce a detailed bespoke show with animation, text, recognisable imagery and transformations. Larger fleets allow us to add resolution, depth and physical scale when the audience or creative genuinely benefits from it.

FlightShows has access to thousands of show drones across Europe, which means we can recommend the number around what you want people to see rather than trying to squeeze every brief into the limits of one fixed fleet.

For some events, intimacy and storytelling matter more than sheer numbers. For a major public audience, the right answer may be substantially larger. We work that out with you once we understand the event.

European shows can be genuinely personal

International does not have to mean generic.

Our 300-drone SM60 production in Mallorca was created for a private celebration and told one person’s life story through the people, places, memories and interests that mattered to him. The guests understood the references as they appeared in the sky, so their reaction became part of the show itself.

That is very different from a civic or public production such as Guernsey Liberation Day, where the show has to work for a much larger shared audience and become part of the wider event.

Planning a drone show anywhere in Europe

You do not need to decide whether a site is suitable before speaking to us.

Send us the proposed location as part of the initial enquiry and we will assess it from the beginning. We look at the audience position, operating space, surrounding airspace, nearby infrastructure and how the drone show needs to fit into the wider event.

If something about the original layout needs adjusting, we can work with you and the venue while the event is still being planned. That is far more useful than discovering late in the process that a stage, audience area or proposed drone position would have worked better somewhere else.

The same principle applies whether the event is in a capital city, beside a waterfront, at a stadium, on a festival site, at a resort or somewhere far more remote.

Weather and darkness across Europe

European weather varies enormously, which is one of the reasons we invested in aircraft suited to the conditions we actually expect to encounter.

Our outdoor drones can operate in winds of up to 45 km/h and in the rain, giving us a much wider operating window than many people expect from a drone show.

The bigger seasonal difference across Europe is often darkness. A summer event in Scandinavia may require a much later show time than the same event in southern Europe, while winter can create exceptionally long periods of darkness further north.

We take that into account when discussing the event schedule, rather than treating every European show as though it is operating under identical conditions.

The final proposal depends on what you want to create. Fleet size, creative complexity, repeat performances and other production elements can all change the scale of the project, so we would rather understand the brief first and recommend the right production for it.

How long does a European drone show take to plan?

For most European projects, getting us involved around two to three months before the event works well.

Larger public events, major creative productions and more complicated locations benefit from earlier involvement because we can assess the site and build the drone show into the wider event while plans are still flexible.

If your event is sooner, it is still worth asking us. A shorter lead time does not automatically mean a drone show is impossible, but the date and location become especially important.
